More information
The Belgian Draft Horse was most popular from 1875 untill 1950. At the time, the Belgian Draft Horse was Belgium's main product of export.
What makes the Belgian Draft Horse truly unique, is its harmonious combination of strength, power, nobility and elegance. Because of its robust fysical constitution it is perfectly adapted to our climate and soil conditions.
Belgian Draft Horses are known for their gentle personality and supple gaits. That is why they are very miltifunctional (rising, driving, working,...).
In modern times, it is no surprise that the Belgian Draft Horse is indeed mostly used for recreational purposes. It can often be spotted at traditional parades, farmer markets and draft horse shows. Their role in agriculture and horticulture has strongly deminished. However, they are still being used in forestry because they are a natural and biological source of power. In the village of Oostuinkerke the Belgian Draft Horse is still being used for shrimp fishery.
